Eight years ago, when I was still working in the “Opportunity Program” at Los Angeles Christian School (LACS), a pull-out program where students with learning differences were taken out of class to work on reading and/or math, I started working with a student named Beth.
Recently, I had the pleasure of participating in the ordination service of Reverend J. Refugio Moya Garcia, who we simply call Cuco. I am so honored to be able to call him Reverend.
On April 10 of last year, a man walked into a special needs classroom at North Park Elementary in San Bernardino. He then opened fire. The man killed the teacher and wounded two students.

One day I stepped into our TUMI (The Urban Ministry Institute) classroom to check on a student who was studying and heard her on the phone.
