A Heart Like His

Early this year, I asked my prayer team to pray that one of my students, Jaslene, would place her faith in Jesus as her Lord. The good news is, she has prayed to receive Jesus and has been saved!

How it came about involves some backstory. In the spring, there was a growing spirit of rivalry among the girls in third grade at Newark Christian School. This included yelling at each other, name-calling and excluding one another.

One day, because of angry remarks from Jaslene, I had her stay with me for lunch so that we could look up some verses on anger. We read some Proverbs and talked about them. She admitted that she had an anger problem. I told her some stories about anger in my own life, and I also told her who helps me every day with my anger problem – Jesus! I asked her if she wanted to have Jesus forgive her of her sins and come into her life to be her Rescuer. She said, “Yes!” We prayed together, and later I gave her a Bible to take home with her.

Since then, gradually, she has become less angry. She tells me things are improving at home as well. She is reading her Bible and a devotional book that I gave to my class for Easter. Jesus is gradually transforming her heart of anger to a heart like His.

Over the summer I spent some time with some of the third grade girls while hosting a slumber party at my apartment. Something I noticed about Jaslene is that she never, not once, lost her temper with any of the girls! This is the fruit of self-control from the Holy Spirit! Praise God!
