Associate Spotlight: Bryant Lee

As the founding and lead pastor of Higher Expectations Church in Humble, Texas, and in my role as a World Impact Associate, I’ve witnessed firsthand the benefits of collaborative partnerships and the impact it has on the local church.

When my family and I moved to Humble, Texas, we knew we were called to the work of urban inner-city church planting. Humble, Texas, is a unique place made up of people from various backgrounds and nationalities. Let me share a snapshot of the community we serve and the people we are reaching.

Our community is under-resourced and very diverse. Our neighborhood is home to four Title One schools serving over 4,000 students, many from broken and challenging home environments. The makeup of our mission field looks very much like the large metroplex of Houston: 22 % African American, 41% Hispanic, 30% Anglo, 3% Pacific Islander, 3% Asian and 2 % other.

Being an Associate with World Impact has become both a brotherhood and a lifeline. The challenge of planting and leading in our context is that many days you feel all alone. However, the relationships that I have formed through World Impact have been a strong source of encouragement. Additionally the training and ready resources provide the tools to assist me in training the next generation of leaders.

I’m often asked what keeps me moving in such a tough environment. My response is always the people in my community that are yet to experience the love of God and respond to the Gospel. Recently our church had the privilege of delivering Thanksgiving baskets to families in need that were nominated by the local elementary schools. This year my wife and I visited with a young couple that lost everything in a home fire two weeks prior. When they opened the door and saw us there with the basket of food, the look on their faces was enough to make every tough day a joy. We had the honor of visiting with the family for nearly 45 minutes, we prayed with them, shared the Gospel with them and were invited back to share more about God along with the mission and vision of our church. Our deepest desire is to love God and love people while at the same time sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For us it’s all about making an impact in our backyard and to the ends of the earth.
