Demonstrating Compassion & Justice at Newark Christian School

Newark Christian School (NCS) is able to show compassion while building the Kingdom of God in many ways. NCS alumna Brittany graduated from a charter high school in Newark, and is now attending Bridgeport University in Connecticut with a scholarship that should cover four years of tuition. This is wonderful news, especially considering how Brittany struggled academically her first few years when she was in NCS. Twelve years ago, she was a kindergartener at the school.  Her immigrant parents spoke only Spanish, yet her intelligence was evident as Brittany would translate for all her teachers when they needed to talk with her mother.

Brittany received a solid educational and spiritual foundation at NCS. As Brittany moved on to other schools after sixth grade, Lois Glass, a World Impact missionary and community minister, kept working with her individually year after year. For six years, Lois and Brittany met for a one-on-one Bible study. Brittany’s mom, Noemi, encouraged their relationship in many ways.

Noemi began to volunteer as a helper in NCS’s After-Care program to help with tuition. She took English as a Second Language courses. Her children have completed their time at NCS, but she continues to work and has become very valuable to the After-Care program. Her faithfulness in coming to work for many years is tremendous and sets the tone for her fellow workers at Newark Christian School.

In her home, Noemi works to provide a warm and safe environment for Brittany and her siblings.  She is ever aware of the dangers on the streets of Newark. Every morning, before her teenagers leave for school, they hold hands as their mom prays a blessing over them. Please pray for Noemi and Brittany as Brittany leaves the protection of her home for the first time.
