Easter at Newark Christian School

Newark Christian School celebrated Easter with a special Resurrection Spirit Day. The missions outreach team of the middle school, consisting of Abdiel, Scarina, Stacey, Tashona, Abigail, Shelby, and Delilah, brainstormed many of the ideas for the devotions, crafts, and games that the rest of the school were able to enjoy on Maundy Thursday.

The Resurrection Spirit Day included worship in song, a short devotion, and scripture readings. The devotion started with, “Did you know that Jesus died on the cross for you? He came as a human baby with needs just like us. Although he was a baby, he was God. He came from heaven. He grew up, just like us, to become a man. He called 12 disciples to follow him closely. He traveled around teaching people about God and the coming Kingdom. He told many parables and performed miracles, like the time he made mud with spit and dirt and healed a blind man. The Pharisees, who were religious leaders of the day, didn’t like Jesus. They accused him of speaking blasphemy, which are words that are not true about God. Jesus had been sharing with people about the Kingdom of God and how to be prepared for it. Because the Pharisees were so upset by what he said about God, they decided that Jesus must die. Jesus died in our place, to take all of our sin. He didn't remain dead. After three days, believing women went to his tomb and were the first to witness God’s incredible power over death. As we celebrate Christ’s resurrection, we remember that the tomb is still empty.”

Children were divided into groups and made empty tomb cupcakes, decorated bags to keep their treasures in, made a cardboard model of the empty tomb, played “He's Alive” and had a treasure hunt where everyone had to find a certain amount of of items. It was a fun, worshipful way of ending our school day and being ready for the day off on Good Friday and the joy to come on Easter morning!
