Empowered Women of God

It is retreat season in Kansas! Our annual women’s leadership retreats are one of the ways that we fulfill our mission to empower urban leaders in World Impact. Most of the women we serve live at or below the poverty line, many are single mothers or raising grandchildren and some were recently incarcerated.

To keep this retreat available to these women, we offer the registration fee at $55 while World Impact takes on the responsibility of raising funds to provide the remaining balance of the actual cost of $130 per person. During this retreat, each woman will enjoy a weekend away in the Flint Hills of Kansas where cell signal is spotty at best and WiFi is only available in a small area. She will be treated to the beauty of nature, to great teaching and worship times, to fun outdoor activities like archery and canoeing, and to five hot meals prepared and served by staff and volunteers. She can forget the demands of life in the city if only for a couple of days.

These annual retreats for women began in 2012 with 45 women from Wichita. Last year these retreats were held in Kansas, Texas, California, and New Jersey with over 500 women in attendance! Our April 6-8, 2018, Kansas retreat sold out completely in only 14 days! These ladies are hungry for a place where they feel special, valued, and loved! But most importantly, they know that when they attend these retreats, they will be told that God has wonderful plans for them, God can see beyond their messy past, God wants to use them, God loves them! Just the reminder that they are loved will often bring an urban woman to tears.

It is my joy and privilege to be a part of such a powerful movement that is sweeping across World Impact as we seek to empower urban women of God. Please pray for our leaders planning the retreats this month as we pour out of ourselves to serve these very deserving women.
