Faithful Mentoring

In 2010, I was the sponsor (madrina) for Brittany when she made her confirmation in the Catholic Church. This involved being a spiritual influence in her life during her teen years. At the time of her confirmation, she asked me to do a one-on-one Bible study and mentoring with her. Little did I know then that we would continue that for the next six years! Praise God that He kept Brittany faithful to this through these years!

In June of this year, Brittany graduated from a charter high school here in Newark. She worked very hard all through junior high and high school, even though academics had been a challenge for her when she was younger. During high school, she was on either honors or high honors each quarter. As a result, she has a full four-year scholarship to Bridgeport University in Connecticut, where she has just started classes. She is pursuing studies in computer engineering.

Brittany remained committed to the Lord during high school and grew in her understanding of the Christian walk. Over the last two years, we went through two approaches to evangelism, which I am praying will help her be able to share her faith with others that she develops friendships with on campus. This summer, I helped her get connected with someone who leads an InterVarsity Bible Study at the university. However, this is the first time that Brittany will be on her own away from family. She asked me to pray that she would remain faithful to the Lord and not allow herself to be pulled in the wrong direction. It is hard for young people today living on secular campuses. Join me in prayer for Brittany as she adjusts to college life. Pray that she will attend the Bible study and spend time in God's Word each day. Pray for her to develop some Christian friendships. Pray that she will have discernment to know when she is hearing God's truth and when she is not.
