Opening Doors

When Nicolas finally came to Dr. Sung Sim at the mobile dental clinic over the summer, his tooth had been bothering him for a while; a long while, really, and the tooth was to the point that it had to be extracted. The average cost of a tooth extraction is $230, which is a difficult amount for most people to come up with. It’s especially difficult amount when you don’t have insurance and your first concern is the honorable responsibility of providing for your large family.

That day Nicolas made his way to the dental clinic that is lovingly funded by God’s people; at a church that has lovingly donated its facility; staffed by professionals who lovingly show up month after month to work to provide an expensive service for free to those with a need. It was God saying to Nicolas through the mobile dental clinic, “I see you. I want to help you, right where you are with whatever you need.”

That day all the people – the believers who gave money, the believers who donated their facility, the professionals who donated their time – manifested God’s love when they extracted Nicolas’s tooth for free.

Yet being God’s hands and feet, Dr. Sim did not stop there. There is a greater joy to be found than relief from the complications of a painful tooth; there is an everlasting joy that can be found only in the Lord. After some gentle prodding from the doctor, Nicolas hesitantly agreed to visit the church that hosted the dental clinic that day.

Nicolas stayed true to his word; he visited that host church with his large family a couple of times. His family is becoming flourishing members of that church. Nicolas is now even a part of the praise band.

God saw Nicolas and his painful tooth, put information in his path that took him to a mobile dental clinic that opened the door to a church. That church drew him into a relationship with our Lord and Savior, who saved us from our sins and pursues us so that we might have a daily, sustaining relationship with Him.
