World Impact In
Although it contains pockets of extreme poverty, Fresno is a city rich in diversity and opportunities for spiritual growth. World Impact has had the privilege of partnering with the urban poor in Fresno since the 1980s. Through the work of the Spirit in Bible and Teen Clubs, sports teams, tutoring, the thrift store, church plants, bike repair events, block party outreaches and partnerships with local churches and non-profits, many lives have been and continue to be transformed.
Missionaries in the Hidalgo neighborhood have partnered with a neighborhood Latino church to create a bridge between the local church and our highly transitional community. With a transient rate of 70%, the opportunity to plant the seeds of the gospel is constantly present through Bible club, tutoring, family outreaches, and Bible studies.
Our newest neighborhood is on the west side of Fresno near Edison-Bethune charter school. Bible Club and tutoring have begun, and we are partnering with a small church plant we found in the neighborhood that is preaching the word of God. Our multi-ethnic partnership with a local church and faith based University have helped us launch these outreaches.
We have the privilege of partnering with dozens of churches and non-profits throughout Fresno, both resourced and those looking for resources. God is so faithful to meet needs of His Bride. Urban exposure short-term mission teams, holiday events, and outreach events create a bridge for local as well as long-distant relationships to experience and learn God’s heart for the city through a new lens. We are grateful to be one of the conduits of those relationships.
The Urban Ministry Institute (TUMI)
TUMI-Fresno trains local urban pastors each week at both our ministry building and other churches. A weekly class is also taught in the Chowchilla Prison in partnership with Prison Fellowship.
Urban Church Associations
Monthly UCA meetings provide a place of resource and encouragement for WI church plant pastors. Many of our pastors are bi-vocational. Together they encourage each other and partner for great effectiveness in ministry.
Sonshine Thrift Store
The Sonshine Thrift Store provides needed household goods and clothing at low prices. The store is run by volunteers and offers basic job training to neighbors. We are working to expand this vision of job training and development through partnerships.
Camps and Retreats
Each summer, with college summer staff and urban high school interns, we expand our ministry outreach in several neighborhoods as well as provide dozens of urban children and teens a summer camping experience where many come to faith in Christ. We also have the privilege of participating in annual men’s and women’s retreats. These happen in partnership with local churches and our other regional city ministries.
