Unfortunately, violence over racial issues in our country is nothing new. Ironically in August of 2015, I was in Ferguson meeting with pastors about racial reconciliation. Here’s an excerpt from my book Bridging The Diversity Gap which I hope will bless you after this weekend’s traumatic events.
All ranters shared the same premise. It was the people in poverty’s fault they were poor, and if they would only act right morally they would get out of their situation.
In my life I’ve kept company with guys who became wealthy by building companies and guys who became wealthy by ruling street corners through the drug game. Regardless of how they came into their wealth, many held the attitude of believing they were in control of their destiny because of the wealth they possessed.
The least, the last, and the lost – I’ve heard many a preacher describe the urban poor this way. I describe them as the over-preached, short-served, and under-discipled.
