Resources

VIew our most helpful resources

Recently I was reminded of how blessed I am with the wonderful donors that support our work with World Impact. Let me share a journey of one supporter that has invested in and blessed me time and time again. I met Al years ago when I was the city director in Fresno, CA. We were working on rehabbing a community center in a neighborhood we called Hidalgo. It was a new neighborhood for us at the time and the project stalled out between Phase I and Phase II. I approached a supporting church’s missions director asking if there was anyone that could give me some advice on what next steps to take. Al agreed to come take look at the property. When he came down, it turned out he remembered playing little league baseball in a park near the neighborhood as a kid. He was surprised at how the neighborhood had changed. God used that to tug on Al’s heart to get involved with our urban ministry— something that would provide a great resource to the kids that are growing up in the neighborhood now. Not only did he get involved but he started pulling in contacts and favors that he had will other builders and subcontractors that his company worked with.

Sometime into this he started calling me “my friend.”  His wife Kathy started surprising us and others on the staff team with Christmas presents and heartfelt encouragement. Little did we realize at the time that years later that new venture would eventually become the main hub of ministry for our Fresno ministry.

Now that I’ve moved to the East coast ministering in the greater NYC area, we don’t see each other as often as when I was in California, but Al makes a point to reach out to me. He has a knack of giving me a boost right when I need it the most. When COVID-19 was hitting the NYC area hard he wanted to make sure my family was ok and exhorted me to stay safe and reminded me of how important health and well-being is. When racial tensions grew, and marches and riots were breaking out again, he checked in to make sure that we were ok since Newark has a history of race riots. He let us know that he was praying for us. The trait that I’m most thankful for is when nudged by the Holy Spirit, Al does what God wants him to do, big or small. My prayer is that we would all follow that example a little more each day!

July is our month of gratitude! As a thank you to our supporters, please check out our 30-day devotional City Prayers Volume 2.
