Outreach

Warmest regards to family and friends. I am always amazed at how quickly time seems to pass. Hopefully, you all had a time of renewal in the Lord and relaxation during the summer.

The summer was also a busy one for World Impact Newark, with a vacation Bible camp at Newark Christian School and outreach work. Some needed renovations were also done in the building. There is always much maintenance to be done in the building which dates from the 1920’s.

My husband, Paul, and I thought that it was particularly important to connect with family and friends. We were involved at our church with the homeless. Our church sheltered and fed a group of homeless children and adults for two weeks. We also participated in the New York City Relief’s bus trip to Newark. They were uplifting experiences. During the summer, Paul underwent the involved and lengthy process of becoming a licensed security guard.

But our security lies in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. This is a repeated assurance both throughout the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. Deuteronomy 33: 12 says: “Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in Him for He shields him all the day long.” This leads to the importance of helping our children to know Christ and to grow in their relationship with Him. The Lord has said, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old (grown) he will not turn from it.” (Proverbs 22: 6)

At Newark Christian School this is the goal for which we strive. In addition to academics, the teachers and staff encourage the students to grow spiritually. There is Bible study in the class and weekly chapel at which the students worship and praise the Lord.

Here is a picture of students at the vacation Bible camp. I had begun to tutor one of the students, Elizabeth* late in the past school year. Please pray for Elizabeth who seems to have learning difficulties and other issues. Prayers for all the students, their families, and staff are needed and would be greatly appreciated at the beginning of this new school year.
