Wolyn June Prayer Letter

June 1, 2016

Dear Family & Friends,

Discipleship is at the core of who we are – we follow Christ and help others do the same. In the inner city we have had to learn what makes sense in an individual’s context in order to help them not only come to faith in Christ, but walk out a life of victory and move into maturity. It doesn’t stop there either. So much of what we do is equipping and empowering future leaders so that the church in the city can be strong and continue to multiply.

We recently baptized seven people and it was beautiful because every one of those being baptized had been invited or brought to the Lord through somebody else in the church. (Initially in our church planting, evangelizing, and discipleship process everyone being saved and baptized was directly connected through us…the missionaries.) Hearing the testimonies, stories and words of encouragement being exchanged helped us see how much God is doing to transform these individuals, their families and our communities.

“So, my son, throw yourself into this work for Christ. Pass on what you heard from me—the whole congregation saying Amen!—to reliable leaders who are competent to teach others.”

– Paul writing to Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:2 (MSG)

We have thrown ourselves fully into this work. For better or for worse, in sickness and in healthy we are here day and night being poured out so that more can know and experience Jesus. We teach what we know. We guide as we’ve been guided. And now we are seeing others do the same…this ‘passing on to reliable leaders who are competent to teach others.’

Chad (pictured right) has been discipling and walking with Jorge (center), who in turn has been discipling Hugo (on the left, just prior to his baptism) and his son Joshua (center). Hugo is in the small group that Jorge started and leads at his home. The two go fishing together and then bring their families together for the fish fry afterwards. When Jorge needs an extra hand on one of his projects he invites Hugo to participate so they talk about faith and life while they work. The transformation in both of these men is amazing to watch as Jorge learns through leading and Hugo has had his eyes opened to a whole new world. No doubt, soon Hugo will be praying over another young man as we all celebrate together his baptism, and likely will be leading his own small group too.

Our sincerest thanks for praying for us and for all the financial support that has made this possible – so that we may continue to throw ourselves in to this work to see more people saved, more leaders empowered and more churches reproducing!
