National Marketing Director
One week in Detroit for thirteen-year-old Candy Gibson and she knew she would be spending the rest of her life worshipping God in the urban context. From that summer forward, her life would be spent pursuing the city for Christ. During Candy’s senior year of high school, her youth leader asked the teens to make a list of three life goals on a notecard. Her list was simple and specific: 1. Graduate from Moody Bible Institute. 2. Work in the inner city. 3. Work with teen girls. This list has been her pursuit since that time.
In 2001, she left her lifelong home in the Michigan cold for the windy chill of Chicago, where she earned her degree in Urban Ministry from Moody Bible Institute. She spent the summer of 2004 in Chester, PA working with World Impact. It was there that she began to see the need for culturally conducive church planting, and she was all in!
For seven years, Candy worked in Chester as a church planting missionary and youth coordinator with World Impact. During those years, she helped begin a community garden, spent many weeks at camp, prayed with folks, performed baptisms, spoke about God’s heart for the poor, taught art classes, and fell in love with her neighbors. Her years there were full of life, new family, true community and growth.
2013 brought with it some restlessness, growing pains and excitement. As each of her amazing roommates began to pursue new adventures in the name of Christ, Candy watched them wrestle and this allowed her to see what prayerful godly women do when their calling is questioned. Through their struggle, she also decided to follow the Lord’s leading in her life and begin a new journey. She left Chester, PA to accept the position as World Impact’s National Marketing Director, which brought her to Wichita.
Candy spends her time promoting World Impact online and at conferences, while creating new content for print and digital media. This role change does not change her heart for the city or for church planting. She uses her passion for each of these parts of her life as she promotes. She will have the opportunity to seek out other like-minded believers who are longing to see Jesus proclaimed in urban America and for the Church to be established.
Beginning with a summer in Detroit, the Lord has orchestrated Candy’s life by giving her a love for missions, allowing her to see teen girls fall in love with God, and carrying her through transitions and moves within World Impact. The notecard that Candy made as a teen is still in her Bible, bringing her great joy as she is reminded of God’s direction in her life.
