World Impact In
Los Angeles, California
Within our Los Angeles, California, ministry alone, around 30 missionaries live and serve in Los Angeles in the following outreaches: church planting, The Urban Ministry Institute, The Los Angeles Christian School, Kaleo youth ministry, a medical and dental clinic and The Sonshine Shop thrift store.
Since 1991, World Impact Los Angeles has planted or partnered to plant in 79 church plant efforts. Forty-seven of these efforts are currently active church plants or churches serving their communities. These congregations meet in homes, outdoor parks, shared church facilities, community centers, and World Impact facilities.
The Urban Ministry Institute
Existing Bible institutes and seminaries exclude urban leaders by stressing traditional academics and by carrying a price tag far beyond the means of many. TUMI's Certificate in Christian Leadership Studies is economically and intellectually accessible. Our Capstone Curriculum is a seminary-level program of practical theological studies that emphasizes a narrative approach to the scriptures, an oral-learning methodology, and the use of symbolic visual aids for easy memorization.
As TUMI-LA student Robert explains, "My TUMI studies have helped me make sense of what I had learned before, helping me organize my thoughts within the big picture of the Kingdom of God. More than that, the classes were given in such a way that I was able to share the information with others easily—it stuck with me." Another TUMI-LA student Don adds that TUMI studies are "not just to acquire knowledge and the ability to converse or debate about biblical subjects but to have a changed heart.”

Los Angeles Christian School
Begun in 1982, the Los Angeles Christian School is a mission school providing quality Christian education in a safe and loving atmosphere to more than 100 children from the surrounding community who are involved in our church plants and local churches partnering with our mission and vision. Our school offers classes from kindergarten through eighth grade. Sara Marroquin is our Principal.
World Impact Teen Center
The Teen Center opened in 2010, after a large inner-city high school was built across the street from World Impact. God gave the leaders at World Impact the vision to reach unchurched, lost, and hurting students who would be walking by each day after school.
Since then, hundreds of students have been able to hear the gospel, numerous lives have been transformed, and many former students have gone on to become Christian leaders in their context. The Teen Center ministries have also provided significant assets to under-resourced students at a crucial time in their lives. The Teen Center provides a Drop-In program for youth, which includes tutoring, a gospel message, life skill classes, and open gym basketball. It also provides Middle School and High School youth groups (called Kaleo). Lastly, the Teen Center offers a discipleship program and a ministry for Young Adults. Watts Christian Health Center
Our health ministry, located at the World Impact Watts Center, provides much-needed medical and dental care, at no cost, to those in need. We partner with the Los Angeles Christian Health Center, supporting churches and the Simi Valley Community Pregnancy Center to staff these vital outreaches. Each quarter we also offer community health fairs in partnership with our church plants.
The SonShine Shop
The SonShine Shop thrift store provides quality new and used clothing, appliances and household goods to families in the community.
The Oaks Camp & Conference Center
Located in a secluded valley at the edge of the Angeles National Forest, 65 miles north of Los Angeles, The Oaks serves our inner-city church-plant families of California and offers retreat opportunities for churches and other groups. The Oaks has an extensive summer-camp ministry, leadership-training program, an outdoor education program, and so much more—all as a natural extension of supporting World Impact's church-plant movements.
