I Really Needed This…

Dear Family and Friends,

As many of you know, we had to cancel and postpone our urban leadership retreats last year due to COVID. The last time we hosted a women’s retreat was in April 2019. Due to restrictions, we had to get creative when it came to planning our recent retreat in April. Our planning team decided to host an outdoor one-day retreat. We rented out the Starlite Drive-In theater and made preparations to host a Drive-In Women’s Retreat!

Our theme for the event was “Refined.” We based this theme on 1 Peter 1.6-7, “In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” This past year has been hard on all of us, but we are encouraged in the knowledge that God uses our suffering and trials to refine us and make us more Christ-like.

We had 125 women (plus kids!) attend our retreat from urban churches in Wichita and the surrounding area. Through God’s gracious provision, we had amazing times of worship, teaching, prayer, and fellowship. Following the retreat, I got messages from women telling me how much they enjoyed the retreat and how they were encouraged.

Many of the women are excited for our weekend retreat in September at Prairie View Christian Camp. We know these retreats are crucial for urban women. One woman told me, “I really needed this. I needed to rest and be refreshed.”

Thank you for supporting us and helping make retreats like this possible. Please continue to pray for our retreats that more could get going again around the country in 2021 and 2022.

In Christ,

Daren, Tina, Jackson, Justus, and Caden Busenitz
