Empowering Urban Women

The Lord is continuing to do great work in the inner cities of America! Men and women are being trained up and released to evangelize, equip and empower those in their communities. One of my great joys in ministry is working with urban women. I am always amazed and inspired to see how these women overcome their own adversities to minister to others. Often in ministry, women are the first to come to church and become involved. Through their faithful witness, many of their family members come to know Christ.

For the past couple of years, I have directed our Regional Women’s Retreat. Our numbers grow more and more each year. Women from every walk of life and ethnicity are being empowered and equipped to go back to their churches and communities and share Christ.

Recently, the wife of one of our indigenous pastors, another missionary and I have started a women’s group for all the female leaders and pastors’ wives in our Urban Church Association. All of these women have significant roles in their church: leading Bible studies, discipling women, leading worship. Leadership can be exhausting, both physically and emotionally. Many of these women pour their hearts and souls into their congregations and communities. At our last women’s retreat, I had a chance to talk to one of these leaders. She expressed a desire to be a part of a group where she could fellowship with other women and learn how to be a better leader. This group grew out of need to help support and empower our female leaders. Our hope and prayer for this group is that each woman will be encouraged, equipped and empowered to live out the calling they have received from Christ.

As you may know, our prison ministry has continued to grow and produce much fruit. One of the things we are currently working on is how to minister to the wives and families of prisoners. I have been discipling the wife of one of the inmates. With her help, we hope to organize some events that will minister Christ’s love to these precious families. Please pray for both the inmates and their families. God is doing amazing things inside Kansas prisons!
