Changed Lives at the Oaks

This past month I had a unique opportunity to spend a long weekend with many of my seventh and eighth grade students. Each winter, Los Angeles Christian School takes seventh and eighth grade students to a winter camp hosted by The Oaks, a World Impact camp ministry.

I have been enjoying how amazing it is to be in my students’ lives outside of school. During that weekend I was able to hang out with students, play games, learn about their families, and have serious conversations about who Jesus is to them.

This year’s winter camp theme was “LIT,” and sessions revolved around being light in the darkness. Even for our students who go to church weekly, the Lord moved in their hearts to charge them on, to remind them that it isn’t enough to just say you’re a Christian and go to church. I heard one of the eighth grade students say during a debriefing time, “I’m leaving here a new person. The person I was before this camp is gone.” Praise God that we are offered new life in Him!

Another student made a decision to follow Jesus during our time at camp, praise the Lord! This student has struggled with putting her faith in Jesus, but has sought after prayer from teachers this year. Camp is so fun and many times we can get on a spiritual “high” afterwards, but I am thankful that these conversations don’t have to end at camp. I am thankful to see these wonderful faces each day.
